Welcome and thank you for choosing Central Penn Fitness & Aquatic Center. We hope you will find your experience with us healthy and enjoyable. Your decision to join signifies your choice to make a positive, healthy impact on your way of life.
This policy handbook is intended to answer any questions you may have regarding your membership or services provided throughout our facility. We want you to experience all of the courtesies, comforts, privileges, and services you deserve. Our team will maintain and oversee these policies for your benefit and for the benefit of all our members, participants and guests.
All of us at the Central Penn Fitness & Aquatic Center are committed to service excellence within a clean and friendly environment. Please help us to continue making improvements by sharing your comments and feedback to me directly or with our Member Service Team at the front desk. MISSION STATEMENT
Our commitment is to deliver a comprehensive fitness experience by providing quality programs, clean facilities, state-of-the-art equipment and motivation in a supportive, community-based environment.
BY-LAW
Central Penn Fitness & Aquatics reserves the right to terminate a membership at any time, for any reason, including non-payment of dues, violation of Club policies and membership etiquette guidelines by any person on the member’s plan. If your membership is terminated BY THE CLUB, unless otherwise required by law, you will not be refunded any pre-paid dues or fees. Further information on expected member behavior and club rules and regulations is provided in this handbook.
MEMBER ETIQUETTE DRESS CODE
Members should wear comfortable and applicable clothing appropriate for the specific activity they are participating in. (i.e., athletic wear in fitness areas. Cutoff and denim shorts are not considered to be appropriate athleticwear.) Shirts MUST always be worn, except when in designated locker rooms or pool area. Shirts displaying profane or inappropriate images or words will not be permitted and staff members reserve the right to ask a member to change or leave the facility at any time. Shirts with large arm cutouts are not considered appropriate fitness wear.
Bathing suits must always be worn in the pool. Appropriate swimwear required. Excessively revealing bathing suits are not permitted.
Shirts and shoes MUST be worn in all areas where exercise equipment is present. Non-marking gym shoes must be worn while on the group fitness studio and racquetball courts. Muddy or soiled shoes are not permitted anywhere inside CPFA. Closed-toe athletic shoes MUST be worn on the fitness floor. Staff members and management of CPFA reserve the right to decide whether any clothing item is deemed inappropriate at any time.
BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS
It is the intention of CPFA to provide a positive, enjoyable environment for all its members. Members are always expected to be respectful to other members and staff. Management reserves the right to ask any member, at any time, to leave if behavior policies are violated. Memberships may also be subject to suspension or revocation as deemed necessary, if repeated offenses occur.
ZERO-TOLERANCE POLICY
There is ZERO TOLERANCE at CPFA for harassment, bullying, intimidation, or otherwise negative behavior or language directed towards another member or staff person(s). This includes participating in the transfer of gossip and rumors. Members who feel discriminated against, harassed, or otherwise offended by another member or staff’s behavior should report their concerns to Club management immediately.
SUSPENSION/REVOCATION OF MEMBERSHIP
Members will be subject to disciplinary action if they do not adhere to the policies outlined in the Member Etiquette section of the Member Handbook.
A “three-strike system” will be implemented:
1. A verbal warning will be given and documented in the member’s file.
2. A written warning will be sent to the member.
3. Management will determine whether to issue a suspension or termination of membership.
The Management of CPFA reserves the right at any time to amend or enforce policies set forth in the Member Handbook.
MEMBER SERVICE
Our Member Services team is here to assist our members, guests, and participants in any way possible. Please visit our Member Services desk if you have questions or concerns so we can provide you with the best possible experience. Member Services can assist with membership-related issues, program enrollment and member feedback.
MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
All personal, financial, and health-related information is strictly confidential and may require updating from time to time. CPFA utilizes different methods to settle your account depending on the type of membership. Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) is used for all membership types via MasterCard, Visa, Discover, checking or savings method of payment. A one-time joining fee is required to begin your membership. All memberships are month to month. If your membership remains active and in good standing the joining fee is not charged to you again. If your membership has been canceled and you decide to rejoin CPFA, you will be subject to pay the prevailing joining fee again to restart your membership.
ACCOUNT SETTLEMENT METHODS
Once you provide your account information and authorization, we will automatically debit the pre-defined accounts for the appropriate monthly dues as designated in the membership agreement. CPFA reserves the right to refuse entry to any member whose account is delinquent or past due. Your monthly dues are drafted on either the 1st or 15th of each month depending on the date you start your membership. Any questions regarding membership accounts may be directed to CPFA accounting department.
MEMBERSHIP CLASSIFICATION TYPES
1) Individual Membership: Individual memberships are for individuals 26 years of age or older.
2) Couple Membership: Is a membership for two people who are considered a couple and who live together under same household.
3) Family Membership: Family memberships are for any families of 3+. Family members include at least 1 legal spouse/significant other and any legal dependents 12 - under the age of 21.
4) Discounted Memberships: Discounted dues for Seniors (65 or older), Military (veteran or active), First Responders (police, fire & EMT) and Young Adult (18 -25 years of age).
5) Medicare Programs – Silver Sneakers, Silver & Fit and Renew Active
All monthly dues memberships are subject to an annual assessment fee of 39.00 billed on the 2nd month of membership and annually thereafter.
MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATION
Members may cancel their membership agreements without penalty within three business days after your initial agreement signing with a full refund. All membership cancellations after this period will require in-person, advance written notice 15 days before your bill date to cancel your membership. Cancellations within 15 days of your bill date, all members must make scheduled dues payment to fulfill cancellation. Notification by phone, email, fax, or verbal will not be recognized as a valid cancellation notice and will not result in the membership being canceled.
BUYER’S RIGHT TO CANCEL
If you wish to cancel this agreement, you may cancel by delivering or mailing by certified mail, return receipt requested, written notice to this health club. The notice must say that you do not wish to be bound by the contract and must be delivered or mailed before 12 midnight of the third business day after you sign and receive a copy of this contract.
MEMBERSHIP FREEZE
A membership freeze is available for medical or non-medical reasons. Medical freezes require a form with documentation, while a non-medical freeze request will be subject to a 10.00/month freeze fee. All freezes are up to 90 days at the time of request.
MEMBERSHIP CHANGES
BILLING: Occasionally, Members may need to change the type of billing method used for their monthly dues. Please see someone from our Membership Service Team to update any billing information.
TO UPGRADE: To add a family member to an existing membership, please see someone from our Member Services Team. Additional family members must reside at the same address and be under 21 years of age.
TO DOWNGRADE: Members may downgrade their membership at any time without a fee. Please contact someone from our Membership Service Team.
MEMBERSHIP CARD
Membership cards are not transferable and must be swiped on every visit to gain entry. Photo identification is necessary with a CPFA membership purchase and an ID photo will be taken for the CPFA database records only. If you allow your membership card to be used by another person for the purpose of obtaining admission, your membership will be cancelled. In the event of a forgotten, lost or stolen membership card, please see someone from our Membership Service Team for card replacement.
FITNESS START UP
All members will receive a complementary Fitness Start Up upon joining. The Fitness Start Up appointments are with a certified Personal Trainer who will guide you to the appropriate activities that match your interests, goals, and abilities to assist in your fitness journey. All appointments are up to 1 hour and include completion a health questionnaire, review of goals and orientated to cardio, strength and functional equipment.
GUEST POLICY
CPFA welcomes guests and encourages members to share their experience of the club with friends, family, co-workers, and other acquaintances. To ensure continued high-level service to members, the following policies apply to guests:
1) Each guest MUST be accompanied by a member and is limited to one visit
2) Guests must adhere to the club policies and procedures. Members will be held responsible for guests who violate these established guidelines. Please make sure that guests are aware of what is expected within the club.
3) Guest fees apply to all areas of the Club: - Adults: $20/per person, per day - Children (15 and under): $10/per person, per day
4) Contact Membership Services in advance to obtain a Guest Pass if your guest is interested becoming a member. Guests are required to complete our Guest Waiver and provide photo identification (ex. Driver’s license or picture ID). CPFA reserves the right to deny access to anyone for any reason, including non-compliance with guest-related policies, and club programming.
• Extended-Guest passes are available for out-of-town guests (more than 25-miles away), at the following rates: - $75/per person, per week (7 consecutive days). Please contact the Membership Services to request an extended-guest pass. Guest fees are subject to change.

Monday – Friday: 5:00 am – 9:00 pm
Saturday & Sunday: 7:00 am – 4:00 pm
You may also visit the club website at centralpennfitnesscenter.com. Hours may be subject to change. Holiday Closings: Easter, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
*Additional holidays may have modified Club Hours of Operation. These modified hours will be posted in advance.
SAFETY
CPFA takes everyone’s safety – staff, members, and guests alike- very seriously. We have implemented the following policies to ensure that this is a secure environment.
CHECK-INS
All members, staff, and guests must check in at the Front Desk upon entering the building. We require that all persons be accounted for while visiting the facility.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
The following items are PROHIBITED on club property. Members who are found to have possession of these items are subject to removal from the club, as well as having their membership suspended or revoked.
• Weapons – including but not limited to guns and knives. Law enforcement officials may be permitted to have their licensed weapons on the property, but they must be kept in the members’ vehicle.
• Illegal drugs
• Alcohol
• Cigarettes, E-cigarettes, and vaporizers – smoking is NOT permitted in any area on club property. This includes the use of any of the aforementioned devices.
DRUGS & ALCOHOL
Members are not permitted to use any of the fitness areas (including the pools, racquet courts, group fitness classes, fitness floor) while under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol. Members who are suspected of use will be asked to leave the premises. CPFA staff and management reserve the right to refuse service to any individual at any time.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
1) If you witness an emergency or accident while on club premises, please advise a staff member immediately. However, if someone requires immediate medical attention, members do have the authority to call 911, should it be necessary.
2) In the event of an emergency and alarms are activated, all members MUST evacuate as directed immediately and follow all instructions given by a staff member. Members who do not evacuate or abide by the instructions given to them may be responsible for paying any fines related to their actions.
CELL PHONE USAGE
Cell phone usage to take pictures in the club is STRICTLY PROHIBITED within private areas of the club such as locker rooms and bathrooms. Additionally, pictures and videos in other areas (fitness floor, group fitness, functional room and cardio areas) is prohibited as well. If it is reported that a member is using their cellular device in these areas, management reserves the right to remove the member from the premises, suspend, or revoke membership privileges. Law enforcement authorities will be notified, if necessary.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Posting negative comments about CPFA, its employees, or its members on any form of social media is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate suspension or termination of membership privileges.
FITNESS FLOOR – CARDIO EQUIPMENT/WEIGHT TRAINING AREAS
CPFA houses a diverse and contemporary fitness club. To ensure the safety and comfort of all members, the following policies should always be adhered to:
1) To use the fitness equipment, members must be at least 16 years of age. Children ages 12 – 15 must complete CPFA Junior Strength Certification Program.
2) The Junior Strength Certification Program is a complimentary, mandatory program offered by our personal trainers for children ages 12-15.
3) Children ages 12 to 15, upon successful completion of the Junior Strength Certification Program, may workout in select areas of the fitness floor but must always remain under the direct supervision of their parent/guardian.
4) Only members ages 16 and up are permitted to use the free weight area, unless under the direct supervision of a personal trainer.
5) Improper conduct, such as horseplay, will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the fitness area.
6) Inappropriate language, dropping or throwing weights, and making loud grunting noises while working out is not permitted.
7) Please limit the usage of cardio equipment to thirty (30) minutes when other members are waiting.
8) After using any cardio and weight training equipment, members are asked to use the provided disinfectant spray or wipes to wipe down the machines or weights used.
9) Please return all free-weights, plates, bars, dumbbells, and other equipment to their designated places so that other members may access them easily.
10) Gym bags or other personal items are not permitted on the fitness floor. Items on or around the floor pose a tripping hazard. Members will be asked to remove these items and place them in a locker.
11) Personal Trainers and fitness staff are available on the fitness floor throughout the day to answer questions. Members are encouraged to approach staff members for assistance with operating equipment, safety concerns, and inquiries about programs that the club offers such as private training sessions, workout regimen development, group classes, etc. Please ask for assistance if you do not know how to use a machine or any equipment. CPFA will not be held responsible for any accidents or injuries sustained while on club property.
12) Be courteous to other members around you- be cognizant of loud noises, wearing strong perfumes/colognes, having cell phone conversations, remaining seated on equipment or benches for an extended period of time to text, etc.
13) Cell phone conversations are not permitted while on the fitness floor or while using cardio equipment and members wishing to carry on a phone conversation will be asked to go to the common areas for the club. Staff members have been asked to enforce this rule.
14) Hot beverages are not permitted on the fitness floor.
15) Only fitness instructors employed by CPFA are permitted to instruct, train or conduct classes on club property. (NOTE: A “Class” is considered 3 or more members working out in the same fashion or routine together for an extended period.)
FUNCTIONAL TRAINING AREA
Our functional training area is located on the lower level of the club. Small equipment, kettlebells, and suspension straps are available to use when not in use for other programs. Members ages 16 and up are permitted to use this equipment. Children ages 12-15 may use the equipment upon completion of our Junior Strength Certification Program while under the direct supervision of a parent, guardian or personal trainer.
EQUIPMENT USAGE
Any damage to equipment or destruction of the fitness floor or building due to inappropriate use of equipment will not be tolerated. Members who are seen deliberately destructing or misusing equipment will be asked to leave the facility and their membership privileges may be revoked. Members will be required to pay for any damages caused by destructive behavior. Parents or legal guardians will be held responsible to pay for any damages caused by minors. Equipment may not be removed from the facility as it is the property of CPFA. No personal equipment is allowed to be brought on to the property.
AQUATICS
1) Proper swimming attire must always be worn. Thong, Brazilian, or otherwise excessively revealing bathing suits are not permitted. CPFA reserves the right to determine if a garment is inappropriate. Members and or guest will be asked to wear a coverup if a garment has been determined to be inappropriate.
2) During an electrical storm or thunderstorm, the pool will be cleared of all swimmers at the first sound of thunder or flash of lightning. Thirty minutes after the last flash of lightning or sound of thunder, the pool will re-open.
3) Family swim time permits children under the age of 13 years old into the pool area. Children must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent or legal guardian. Check with our front desk for dedicated family swim times.
4) There is NO DIVING allowed in the pools at any time.
5) Shower before entering the pool or hot tub.
6) No glass, food or eating is permitted in the pool area.
7) No running, horse playing, jumping or diving allowed.
8) Lap lanes are for lap swimming, share lanes is required.
9) Obey all directions from Lifeguard or CPFA Staff.
10) Scheduled Family swim will be canceled if no lifeguard is on duty.
WHIRLPOOL
For safe and appropriate usage of the whirlpool, the following guidelines should be followed:
1) Children under the age of 16 are not permitted in or around the whirlpool.
2) Please shower before entering the whirlpool.
3) Appropriate swimming attire must always be worn.
5) Fifteen minutes is the recommended maximum time to utilize the whirlpool.
CAUTION: The elderly, those under medical care, pregnant women, those with a heart condition, or high blood pressure should consult a physician before utilizing the whirlpool.
SAUNA
1) Please shower before entering the sauna.
2) Members 16 years of age or older may enjoy the sauna for up to 15 minutes at a time.
3) Eucalyptus may not be used in the sauna.
4) For additional information for all sauna policies, please refer to the signage posted outside of these rooms.
CAUTION: The elderly, those under medical care, pregnant women, those with a heart condition, or high blood pressure should consult a physician before utilizing the sauna.
GROUP FITNESS
CPFA offers a wide variety of adult group fitness classes for members and their guests, that include Indoor Aquatic, Cycling, Yoga, Cardio, Strength and many others. Information on the different classes provided can be located on the website. Group fitness classes are subject to change from time to time. Please be sure to refer to the website or the CPFA most recent schedule. For maximum enjoyment and organization, we ask members to adhere to the following guidelines pertaining to group fitness programming at the club:
1) Select a fitness class comparable to your fitness level and needs.
2) Ensure that you have adequate fluid intake before, during, and after class sessions.
3) Arrive on time. It is recommended that you arrive for classes at least 10 minutes early to set up and receive instructions. Latecomers are not permitted to join the class after the class has been started.
4) Children must be at least 16 years of age to participate in group fitness classes.
5) Only instructors employed by CPFA are permitted to conduct classes and/or programs on club property.
In the rare event of unforeseen circumstances compromising a specific class offering, the Club will make every effort to notify the membership of any class cancellations, class mode substitutions, or changes as early as possible. This information is communicated through our website, Facebook page, Instagram, and in-house signage. Email and APP notifications may also be sent through our registration system, if feasible.
CYCLING STUDIO
Members may enter the Ride Studio only when a designated class is scheduled.
1) Arrive at least 10 minutes before class begins to allow enough time for bike setup.
2) It is recommended all new participants meet with an instructor prior to taking a cycling class to receive their bike adjustments and safety instructions.
RACQUETBALL
We have two racquetball courts available.
1) Eye-guards are strongly recommended for all ages. Players choosing to play without eye protection do so at their own risk.
2) Only court shoes are to be worn on court surfaces. Running shoes and black soled shoes are prohibited.
3) Court reservations can be made up to 5 days in advance.
PERSONAL TRAINING
CPFA has certified Personal Trainers to serve members who wish to take on a more individualized fitness routine. For more information and pricing details on the training offered email us at info@centralpennfitnesscenter.com.
1) Members can schedule sessions with our personal trainers by calling our direct phone number 717-564-4171. If the need arises, please cancel sessions at least 24 hours in advance. If sessions are cancelled less than 24 hours in advance, the full session will be charged.
2) Individuals with certain medical conditions may be asked to obtain a medical clearance from a physician before beginning a new fitness or exercise program.
3) Only personal trainers employed by the club are permitted to train others on club property.
SMALL GROUP TRAINING
We offer several fee-based Small Group Training classes in a variety of fitness and mind/body programs. For more information and pricing details on the classes offered email us at info@centralpennfitnesscenter.com.
LOCKER ROOMS
Locker Rooms, showers, toiletries, and sauna are included in both men’s and women’s locker room. Lockers are available for daily use, and we recommend all members purchase a lock to secure all valuable items while using a locker. Cell phone usage is STRICKLY PROHIBITED. CPFA is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please check with our Front Desk Associate regarding any lost and found. This is located at the front desk.
FRONT DESK
Members and staff are required to check in by using their CPFA barcode every time they enter the Club. This process is in place for the safety and security of all who enter the building. Front Desk personnel are required to stop anyone who passes by without checking in. Guests are required to stop by the Front Desk and complete the necessary Waiver Form prior to admittance to the facility. Front Desk Associates are available to assist members and guests who may have questions or need directions to specific areas of the club. They are a valuable source for information regarding the many events and programs going on at the club and can connect members and guests with the appropriate staff members to assist in answering any questions.
MODIFICATIONS TO POLICIES; MEMBERSHIP CONTRACT; HEALTH CLUB ACT
CPFA may suspend, modify, or eliminate the policies set forth herein or add additional policies and/or modify any of the prices listed herein or related services at any time without notice. If there is any inconsistency between the terms of this policy and a member’s membership contract, the terms of the membership contract shall control. Nothing contained herein is meant to contradict, circumvent, or otherwise violate Pennsylvania’s Health Club Act, as amended from time to time. In the event of any inconsistency between the terms of the polices contained herein and the provisions of said Act, the provisions of said Act shall control.
